I just got my discs from Mike for this show too - blew me away! I have to say that I thought that Garcia was playing on Jessica - sounds really like him to me - though he is not credited. I searched some ABB sites and came up with this info: DATE THEATER LOCATION ---- ------- -------- 12/31/73 Cow Palace San Francisco, CA Bill Graham intro Wasted Words Done Somebody Wrong One Way Out Stormy Monday Midnight Rider Blue Sky In Memory of Elizabeth Reed Set II: Happy New Year!-> Statesboro Blues Southbound Come and Go Blues Ramblin' Man Trouble No More Jessica -> Les Brers In A Minor -> Drums-> Les Brers In A Minor -> Whipping Post Garcia, Kreutzman, Scaggs join up WP Jam-> Linda Lou Mary Lou Hideaway You Upset Me Bo Diddley -> Mountain Jam -> Bo Diddley Break Save My Life Blues Jam Set III: You Don't Love Me -> Will The Circle Be Unbroken -> Mountain Jam CDB, MTB open NA Indian benefit >Comments Tim Crawford (mailto:tcrawford@fpresearch.com) wrote: I drove up from LA to see this one. Spent six hours on line in the rain. Got inside and bought an ABB T-shirt to replace my wet one. Two people did get married. After Garcia and Kreutzman joined the band the audience was throwing these little white balls that had dropped at midnight at the stage. You couldn't see Garcia but you could hear him. Dicky came to the mike and implored "If you stop throwing these little white things at us will come out front and play." Great show , it ended about 3:30am started at 7:30. jim johnson (mailto:dancingchicken@earthlink.net) wrote: we heard this one one radio. had an allman bros new years eve party. If memory serves me right, Elizabeth Reed was the last song before the break. The extended intro went on forever and never kicked into the uptempo jam. Stopped and went to break. Boz Scaggs was interviewed and said his next project was an album of unreleased Gregg Allman songs. Anyone know anything about that one? Gregg also got the all time one liner-after Betts tuned forever-again, "now for our next song, five minutes of uninterrupted tuning." Wish I'd been there. Ethan 'Red' Davis (mailto:ejdavis@netscape.net) wrote: One other announcement from stage: Bill Graham came out after the second set and says, "We?re going to close out and bring the Allman Brothers back on and Jerry and Bill and some of the others. There?s a couple here backstage that have decided they want to get married this evening. Go into matrimonial bliss, so while we?re setting up there?s a reverend we found in the house they?re going to get married right here then we?re going to close it out with the Allman Brothers." One last set list note: I think it is 'We Bid You Goodnight' instead of 'Will the Circle.' Some random notes: My copy of the second and third set of this set has a slightly different set list. There is no 'Hideaway' after 'Mary Lou'. 'Trouble No More' is followed by 'Liz Reed'. After that is 'Les Brers'. Some of the comments made during the show were interesting: In the middle of 'Liz Reed' Dickie says, "Alright where we at. No telling what?s going to happen now." Near the end of the third set someone says, "Thank you very much folks. Happy New Year. Jerry Garcia. Bill Kruetzmann. Jai Johanny Johanson. Chuck Leavell, Dickie Betts, thankyou. We had a great time. Good night." This is a very different sound than the current Brothers. This show was a dreamy ride down the slow Mississippi. A rare gem. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
